It seems there’s never any shortage of “it” neighbourhoods for condo hunters in Toronto to choose from. These areas have all the ingredients of an incredible quality of life, from beautiful surroundings to attractive amenities to convenient transportation. Lately, one of the communities I’ve been asked most about is St. Clair West. This vibrant section of midtown, which exudes both old-world charm and contemporary cool, has really come into its own in recent years—and it has a whole lot to offer those who embrace condo living.

If you’re looking for the perfect unit to call home, here are five reasons to start your search in St. Clair West…

1) It has a rich history

Our city is known for being multicultural, and St. Clair West is no exception. Many Italian and Portuguese immigrants have called the neighbourhood home, and their influence can be felt through a number of traditional food markets, butchers, and cafes. You’ll also hear any number of languages spoken as you walk along the avenue—a reminder of what makes living in this city so special.

2) It’s also up-and-coming

While St. Clair West has an interesting history, this increasingly trendy neighbourhood is far from stuck in the past. As the community develops, new restaurants, cafes, and boutiques are opening up. My favourites include Boom Breakfast & Co (a hip brunch joint), Filippo’s (a great place for thin-crust pizzas), and Ecoexistence (for eco-friendly clothes, kidswear, and kitchen items). These easily-walkable hotspots are great for condo dwellers who enjoy a neighbourhood stroll.

3) There’s so much to do

Living in St. Clair West, you’ll never be at a loss when you’re looking for something to do on the weekend. The area is close to some of midtown’s most popular attractions, including Casa Loma. This preserved historic mansion, built in 1914, draws over 350,000 visitors annually. Nearby Wychwood Barns is an incredibly unique event space that hosts regular famers markets along with art shows, literary readings, and more.

4) Getting around is a breeze

For condo dwellers, the ability to easily access the downtown core (and other corners of the city) is one of the most important criteria for choosing a neighbourhood. Fortunately, for those considering a move to St. Clair West, the 512 streetcar makes commuting easy. Residents can ride it to the local subway station, which will connect them to the Yonge-University line. The area also remains motorist-friendly, and there’s a good deal of parking available along the St. Clair West strip and on side streets.

5) The beautiful buildings

If you’re interested in condo living—and calling St. Clair West home—you’re in luck. A wave of new buildings have been constructed in recent years, and there are also others in the pipeline. One of my favourite developments is Monza Condos. With its gorgeous architecture, light-filled suites, and high-end amenities (including rooftop lounges and a state-of-the-art fitness centre), you can expect units here to go quickly!

Put simply, St. Clair West is a fantastic option for any condo dweller who’s looking for a new neighbourhood to call home. This vibrant pocket of midtown has graduated from up-and-coming status, yet buyers haven’t been priced out of the area the way they have in many of Toronto’s most desirable areas.
